On June 10-11, the first- and second-year students of the Environmental Science programme of the Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, led by Lecturer Szende Tonk, visited the Institute of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science of the Eötvös Loránd University.
On the first day, our delegation was received by Associate Professor Dr. Gábor Dibó, then we visited the MSc programme on Science and Communication, which prepares students to transmit natural science knowledge. We inspected their laboratories and some of the environmental and educational short films the students had made. Following that we had the chance to observe the work of two chemistry laboratories and the PhD students carrying out research there.
After lunch break we had the opportunity to attend an excellent presentation, where the lecturer presented the development of the Earth, the earthly processes and the evolution of life through enjoyable experiments. We watched with bated breath how the amazing experiments followed one another.
The presentation of the university ended with a visit to the "green chemistry" laboratory, where certain technological applications were presented, which help in obtaining the same results with less chemical agents. We were offered the opportunity to carry our research in the future in that laboratory.
In the afternoon, during the events of the Lágymányos Eötvös Days, among others we had the opportunity to drive an electric car and then we could test our knowledge in an environmental competition, some of us even obtaining prizes.
On our last day we had a free programme, therefore in the morning we visited the Mineralogy and Petrology Collection of the Natural History Museum, hence increasing our knowledge of geology, and in the afternoon we departed for Kolozsvár.
