Field-work in Greece: 24th May – 2nd June, 2013.
This year the field-work was organized at Laptokarya, a seashore settlement near the Olympus Mountain.
The mediterranean flora and fauna was studied. Like every year, at this time the students found new species as: european fire-fly (Luciola lusitanica), Eleonora's Falcon (Falco eleonorae), common shelduck (Tadorna tadorna), marbled electric ray (Torpedo marmorata), depilatory sea hare (Aplysia depilans), purple sea urchin (Sphaerechinus granularis). The warm, dry and rainless weather favorized the mountain climbing. Nine persons succeeded to reach the sunlit Scala peak (2866 m).
Besides the study tours there were organized two competitions. The students, working in groups, elaborated presentations about Greece and the chemical and biological characteristics of the Mediterranean Sea, and submitted interesting chemical experiments. A photography competition was organized, as well.
The field practice proved to be a usful occasion for consolidating team-work and becoming acquainted with the mediterranean environment.
