About the Environmental sciences studies

Environmental sciences studies was founded with the leadership of Mócsy Ildikó, PhD, associate professor in 2002.

The goal of the department: the goal of the department is the training of specialists who are able to operate with the applications of environmental studies, to efficiently deal with environmental issues and to contribute to the development of a healthy environment.

Main subject matters: The first semester includes the study of natural sciences (geography, physics, chemistry, biology, geology). The subjects are created in such a way that the students coming from non-real background have an opportunity to fall into line with the others. The second year focuses on the study of environmental issues and phenomena (environmental geography, environmental physics, environmental chemistry, ecology, environmental geology). During their third year the students can choose from subjects with the help of which their knowledge can be fructified either on the applicative side, in laboratories, in the field, through impact studies, or on the theoretical side.

Professional orientation: As the European Union emphasizes the protection of environment, the regulation of environmental issues, there are lots of professional opportunities in the national administration services (in the county and local committees), in the environmental inspectorates, in the public health administration, environmental laboratories, civil organizations and firms (as an environmental advisor), in education and research as well.

Special professional events:

  • Environmental Studies in the Carpathian Basin Conference
  • Student Scientific Conferences
  • University Event
  • Professional workshops

Field trips, summer field-work: The department focuses on practice, the students can become part of their teacher’s research programs from their first year of study, they can participate in several field trips and field-works. In order to have a wider perspective, the field trips include the presentation of environmental characteristics from the seaside to the alpine region.
