Geology fieldworks (25–30 October 2016)
In October the Koch Antal Geological Society organized the 8th “Our environment is our treasure” Earth- and Environmental Sciences fieldwork, on which participated professors and students from the Environmental Science Department of the Sapientia University, the Geology Department of the Babeș-Bolyai University and the Mineralogy Department of the Eötvös Lóránd University.
During this trip we observed different geological formations, especially in the southern regions of the Eastern Carpathians. We passed through Oarba de Mureș, Praid, Corund, Băile Tușnad, Covasna and their surroundings. We had the opportunity to observe different geological formations in the salt mine in Praid, the salt way, but the most remarkable landforms where the volcanic ones. The students worked together in teams to resolve the tasks given by professors in the field, and professors also worked together to help student in their professional development. Finally we participated at the 18th Geology Meeting in Szeklerland, and on our way home we visited the basalt columns and slag hills at Racoșu de Jos.
The most important thing we learned on this trip: a geologist never goes out without a notebook, a magnifying glass and a hammer!
