Thieme Nóra, winner of a “Every Can Counts Romania” scholarship
Thieme Nóra, our third year student from Environmental Sciences is one of the three winners of a „Every Can Counts” scholarship offered by the Alucro non-profit foundation. Her essay and demonstration video deal with the challenges of reducing human-bear conflicts, and are entitled "Alternative methods of protecting agricultural land and livestock, by recycling aluminium cans". Congratulations!

12th Environmental Science Conference of the Carpathian Basin
The 12th edition of the Environmental Science Conference of the Carpathian Basin took place between the 1st and the 4th of June 2016 in Berehove, Ucraine, in the joint organization of the Sapientia Hungarian University, the University of Pécs, the Szentágothai College and the II. Rákóczi Ferenc Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute, which provided the location of the conference.

The Admissions Guide for 2016 has appeared
This year our Department announces the Environmental Science BSc with 13 places without study fee and 12 places with contribution to the study fee. In the case of accreditation, this year will start the Environmental Protection and Monitoring MSc with 5 places whithout study fee and 10 places with contribution to the study fee.

Buczkó Krisztina, PhD, algologist of the Hungarian Museum of Natural Sciences from Budapest, visited our Department
On the 25th of November, in one of our Department’s Academic Evenings, Buczkó Krisztina, PhD, algologist of the Hungarian Museum of Natural Sciences talked about her environmental reconstruction studies based on diatom fossils found in Transylvanian lake sediments (Lake Saint Anna, different lakes in the Retezat Mountains), beginning with the Mesozoic Era till the Antropocene.

Laboratory works at the Eötvös Loránd University
On 22 and 23 of October 2015, the 3rd year Environmental Science students carried out a series of laboratory works at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, as part of their Green Chemistry course, such as the microwave assisted synthesis of aspirin and the green synthesis of para-bromo-acetanilide. We are thankful for this possibility!
